Tender Motor

Tender Motor
Tender Motor rehearsal Weld, October 2024

A machine, a flock, a choir, a punk band, lifeblood, a spell, play, a meditation practice, a dance group, a lung, bellows, a geyser, what gives us the energy to continue making art when really we feel like giving up, a soft push, the ground, an entanglement, an open invitation, an atmosphere, an always already ongoing event, a river, a surprise,

A trio that plays it by ear, along the track of breath, voice and ambivalence. By departing from sounding and listening as choreographic material, we create voice dances, soundscapes and

Their work takes the form of choreovocality as point of departure, where the voice works as the primal choreographic material. Tender motor uses the voice both as a tool and a place to explore gender and the human in order to find gaps in the highly politicised/socialised/ideologised body.

Investigating low status vocal and bodily expressions to destabilise and resist our internalised societal norms that rest on patriarchal, colonial, heteronormative building blocks. By embracing expressions that can be read as ridiculous, hysterical, lazy, bestial, and gross

Tender Motor is a non-disciplinary performance trio with a background in fine arts, poetry, choreography, dance and curating. The trio found each other in the master programme in Choreography (NPP) that they all attended 2013-2015. In their work they focus on the relations between sound and movement, and compose, improvise and create pieces departing from a radically process oriented method that includes all parts of their lives in their mutual art practice, which stretches out over a longer time span and emerges in different forms, discourses and contexts.

Premier of their next performance “Tender Motor”, April 2025, Weld.
With and by Kajsa Wadhia, Moa Franzén and Tove Salmgren.
